Art - Material Update and a Concept

So I spent a couple of weeks working on getting some base materials down and sorting some things out for the tileset. I've had some feedback from a DMU alumni about some of my materials and have adjusted them slightly but realise that I need to work into them. They are also very clean and not very suited for a slum environment this is something that I'm planning on changing.

Brick and Painted Brick

- For this I have adjusted the normal and roughness map, since last time, for the time being but feel I need to sculpt it to get it to the level I want

- I want more cracked motar on this material so that it looks like old or not properly made brick rather than new well constructed brick

Final_Tarmac.jpg

Tarmac and TarmacOld

- Again I feel like this needs a bit of time

- The two need to be colour matched for a start so that when vertex painting they blend nicely

- At least the old tarmac needs to beworked into in Zbrush and needs perhaps a height map

Final_Tarp.jpg

Tarpaulin

- This will be used as a substance in desinger or max before baking down so some of the better details will come along with the geometry of the Tarpaulin.

Final_Concrete-y.jpg

BreezeBlock and Concrete Wall

- I sculpted the Breeze Block and although I was happy with the sculpt I am still working out how to make the material act how I need it to

- Again a version with looser bricks and worse mortar needs to be made to fit the environment

- The concrete wall worked well enough but needs some tweaks to the albedo, it will be used from a distance.

Final_CorrugatedMetal.jpg

Corrugated Metal

- This feeling okay and when applied to a test mesh its starting to get there, couple of tweaks such as the tiling on the paint mask and the metalness map.

Final_Chipboard.jpg

Chipboard

- I'm pretty happy with this, I just need to make sure the edge of the meshes work well with the material.

- I also need to make a Plywood or Plywood Veneer material to be used and which could be used with this on the same mesh to get a damaged panel.

These are just some tilable materials to get the project started with, to be used in Substance or as tilables in the end. Next up making a Lego set in the meantime if you have any feedback, crit or advice we'd love to hear it.

We are documenting our progress over at Polycount and on the Unreal forums.

This is our current key concept for the display level hopefully there will be another in a couple of weeks.
